These pavers, (29¾” x 15½” x 2”) also molded of recycled material, have a totally different shape because they are designed to solve a specific problem. Their purpose is to make minor highways and small roads safer. The rectangular openings do retain rainwater, preventing it from pooling across the road, but their primary function is to reduce problems that occur when the tires on one side of a vehicle go off the highway onto soft dirt or mud. Road Edge Pave supports the weight of the car, so that the driver can reduce the speed and carefully return to the highway. Road Edge can also be considered a “rumble strip” alerting or even “waking up” a dozing or inattentive driver.
Road Edge Pave reinforces the edge of the road, making it less susceptible to damage and thus less likely to need repair. With Road Edge, a very economical and extremely safe “shoulder” that requires almost no maintenance can be quickly constructed. Road Edge will not interfere with mowing.
Road Edge panels interlock with a new locking system in which two interlocking panels stabilize each other in every direction. This interlocking system makes it possible to easily install Road Edge around curves. Integral spring elements prevent the panels from movement caused by temperature changes. Up to six rows of Road Edge Pave can be installed side by side. However, two rows of Road Edge is the most frequent application. The nine cross pieces that extend about 1½” below the base insure that panels stay in place once they are filled with dirt or gravel.
An additional benefit of Road Edge is an ecological one. Cars that pull off the road will not make deep ruts or destroy the grasses and wild flowers that naturally appear along the roadside. In fact, the rainwater retained in the rectangular cells, will hold the moisture, nurturing the green growth.
